Our park in Florida has a standing summer get together for the people that live in Michigan.

This last year, I volunteered to host the party.  My brother and his wife agreed to help me, because we live next door to each other and they have been coming to Florida to visit for about three years.  They have made many friends in the park, so it seemed like a good plan to host this gathering together.

We put all the info about the party on Facebook and asked for RSVP’S.  The party was going to be held on July 12, and we asked for info on or before the 7 th of July so we knew how much food we would need  .

The few days before the party was to take place the weather report was not good.  They were forecasting rain, a lot of rain.  So just before the day of  the party, people were cancelling because of the weather.

I had been cleaning the yard and mowing the grass to get ready for this get together.   Also some of the people were coming in their motor homes and some were spending the night.  So after I finished the yard , I started cleaning my house, because I was going to have an overnight guest as well.  One couple stayed at my brothers house and one of the ladies was staying at my house.  My guest decided  the night before the party that she wasn’t coming.

I know my brother worked in his yard for days.  He also put in a horse shoe pit to have something for the guys to do.  They also had a corn hole game.

Mostly the ladies hung out on the deck just talking and the guys played horseshoes and visited.

We were afraid we were going to get rained out, but the rain held off until four o’clock.

By that time the guys were ready to sit and visit so when it started to rain, they all went inside and ate .  The rest of the day was spent visiting , taking  pictures and having dessert.

I went home at four because it was time to feed my dogs.  Once I got home and took care of my girls, I was just going to sit down in the quiet house and rest for a few minutes.  It felt so good, I didn’t go back to the party.  They called me later and wanted me to come beck up so we could take pictures.

A total of twelve people came to the gathering, some stayed and slowly the others started to go home.

The next day , My family took the couple that stayed at their house around to the winery that is just down the road from where we live.  They took them to a few more places of interest.

We had so many friends that were unable to come. One of them was an army veteran that has had a leg amputated and is still having trouble getting in and out of a car. Then there was a couple coming in a motorhome and did not want to travel in a rain storm, Others had family that were graduating or had a sporting event the grandparent didn’t want to miss.Or Weddings to attend.

We missed them , but next year there will be  another Michigan gathering to attend. And if you beg really hard, you might be able to host the party
